ABOUT ME
SHORT BIO

CECILIA ATÁN
Director and Screenwriter
I am an Argentine-Spanish director and screenwriter with an extensive and recognized career in the national and international film industry. From a young age, I have worked and trained alongside prominent filmmakers such as Eduardo Mignogna, Juan José Campanella, Héctor Babenco, Luiz Sepúlveda, and Christopher Hampton, serving on their directing teams.
As a screenwriter and director, The Desert Bride (co-written and co-directed with Valeria Pivato), my first feature film, had its world premiere at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, in the prestigious "Un Certain Regard" section. Critically acclaimed, the film participated in major festivals such as San Sebastián (Horizontes Latinos) and had its commercial release in more than 20 countries.
In May 2025, my second feature film, The Arrival of the Son (also co-written and co-directed with Valeria Pivato), had its debut at the San Sebastián and Barcelona film festivals, and won Best Film at the 39th Mar del Plata International Film Festival.
Throughout my professional career, in addition to my feature films, I have developed documentary series and campaigns for Latin America, most notably in 2016, the TV series Madres de Plaza de Mayo: La Historia (Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo: The Story), nominated for an International Emmy Award.
I am currently shooting my third feature film, The Time Before Me, alongside Fernanda del Nido (Septiembre Cine, Spain), a project that was awarded by the ICEC in 2023 for its development.
Since 2017, I have been sharing my experience by offering workshops and mentoring in film writing and directing.
